Geneva McKinney was born on March 22, 1929 in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Robert Watkins and Kate Ella Watkins. She was called home to eternal rest on April 23, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, TN. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Alex McKinney on January 14, 1947 in Corinth, Mississippi, who preceded her in death. From this union, four sons were born, one son preceded her in death.

She was a loving person who was always singing her favorite spiritual. She confessed her love for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age by joining Good Hope Baptist Church in Haywood County. She later joined Simon Chapel M. B. Church where she was an active choir member and a member of the Mother’s Board. She faithfully performed her duties until her health failed.

Geneva loved cooking for anyone who loved to eat. She would make sure everyone was satisfied. You left with a full stomach and a carry out. She continued to show her love for cooking as an employee at Western Mental Health Hospital for 20 years in the Dietary Department. She also enjoyed working in her flowers, talking on the phone with friends and family, and watching her favorite soap operas.

Geneva leaves to cherish her memory three sons: James (Brenda), J. A. (Clementine), and Jimmie (Marilyn) of Whiteville, TN; three sisters: Ann Woods (Charles), Elkhart, Indiana, Easter Sanders of Jackson, TN; Lee Osie Duffy of Chattanooga, TN two brothers: Lloyd “Ted” Watkins (Mary), Jessie Watkins (Betty) of West Palm Beach, FL; thirty-six grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
