Unfortunately, I did not find out about the passing of Earnestine Cleaves until today. I met her as a teenager volunteering at Nat T. Winston Developmental Center in 1988. From all those years ago to the present, if she saw me, she always spoke. If she was too far away to get my attention to speak, she would call my grandmother to tell her she had seen in me. It was that kind of thoughtfulness and caring that endeared her to so many people. It is also that kind of thoughtfulness and caring that the world seems to be missing. Earnestine will be missed by so many, but she has earned her rest.

Ms. Cleaves was one of the sweetest and kindest ladies I had the pleasure of pumping her gas. She never failed to ask about my Addison and always said what a blessing she was and always said she would pray for her. Sure gonna miss her.
