Born to the late Bessie Gause, Cora was raised by her grandparents, Sam and Coreen Sims of Chicago, Illinois. As a result of her loving grandparents she was exposed to and maintained a Bible believing Christian home and she was taught discipline, self-denial and strict integrity. Studying the Bible was and remained her passion. She displayed a firm belief and trust in God and was convicted by a simple thus saith the Lord. Her principle for life was “Man should not live by bread only but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. The Lord directed Cora to leave her father’s house to a land that He would show her, Jackson, Tennessee. A single mother in a new territory in 1993 with five children faced the challenges by faith in the Lord to find a place to settle with her children and joined West Bemis Baptist Church in Jackson,TN. Cora often referred to lovingly as “Mackie” worked for Liberty National, Shaw broadcasting and cofounder of S&S funeral services in Jackson, TN and Springfield chapel in Corinth MS. In 2013, Cora, while working at S&S Funeral Services, met Bishop Solomon Whitman. Through the providence of God they became fast and best friends and sharing the word of God sister Cora was moved to join the Church at Memphis in Memphis, TN where Pastor Carl Harrison is presiding pastor. They later married in 2017 and they shared a strong loving union and thrived in a joyful marriage blessed of God. She is survived by; Husband Solomon Whitman, five children; David and (Latasha) Brewer, Clint and (Marlo) Sims, Latrina and (Marlon) Findley, William Mitchel and Desiree Mitchel. Three step children; Anthony Whitman, Eural Madry and Sheba Whitman. 21 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, six siblings; Bessie Dotson, Ernest Stevenson, Sam Stevenson, Mary McIntosh, Carl and (Annette) McIntosh and Liz McIntosh, two step brothers; Roosevelt Stevenson Jr., Alexander Rome, her favorite Aunt Ruby Lee Sims of Chicago, Illinois, an uncle; Albert Sims of Kentucky, a God sister, Brenda Hawkins and a lifetime best friend, Patricia (Pat) Thomas, five brothers in law; Cyrus (Bud) Whitman, Levert Whitman, Allen Spencer Whitman and Gerry Keith (Ruthie) Whitman, one sister in law; Iowana Whitman-Tims and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. |
