On Friday, April 28, 2017, Douglas Stephen Rogers, affectionately called “Doug” was called home to glory to be with the Lord where his spirit will be at peace.

Douglas, the son of the late Stephen and Christine Rogers was born on June 28, 1948, in Newport News, Virginia. He was reared in King George County, Virginia where he attended Lambs Creek Elementary School and Ralph Bunche High School. Douglas joined the U. S. Marine Corps at the early age of 17 and was sent to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina for Basic Training. After Basic Training he was sent to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for ITR Training. He also attended Aviation School and studied mechanical fundamentals in Millington, Tennessee. That was not enough excitement for Douglas. Therefore, he asked to be transferred back to Camp Lejeune and later served tours of duty in Hawaii, Japan, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Panama, and St. Thomas. He went to Fort Sherman, Idaho for jungle warfare training prior to being sent to Vietnam in January 1968, where he was a Machine Gunner. His last tour of duty was at the Quantico Marine Base in Quantico, Virginia. Douglas loved the state of Tennessee and later returned to make it his home where he developed many friendships, and a new-found family.

Douglas had an extensive career in law enforcement and worked for several detective agencies, the University of Tennessee and Rossville Police Department. He also worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard while residing in New York.

Douglas had several hobbies but a true love for rebuilding antique trucks where he won several trophies and other recognition. He had an affectionate for guns, loved jazz and blues and traveling with his family. Before his health diminished, he was active in the Marine Corp League where he served as the Commandant.

Douglas leaves to cherish his memory his loving devoted wife Barbara Louise, four (4) sons Freddrick Rogers, Dedrick Rogers (Jomara), DeWayne Rogers, Angelo Muse, his one and only daughter, Desarae, nine (9) grandchildren, Amira, Davin, Demora, Jomario, Anthony, Anthony Abel, William B., Freddrick, Jr. and Izmani, his brother James Rogers (Phyllis), three sisters, Mirinda Jackson, Sharon Clarke (Nathan), Jacquelyn Rogers Lucas, six aunts Elsie Fincher and Mary Lou Gray, Louise Jackson, Gervie Gray, Esther Fingers, and Charlene Pearson, one Uncle, Emanuel Rogers , eight wonderful sister-in -laws and fve great brother-in-law’s, Dorothy (Michael) Bolden, Lois Ruben, Barbara Morton, Mary Pearson, Brenda (Chris) Dionne, Dell (Gary) Dickerson, Ricky (Janice) Pearson, Betty (Larry) Jackson, Amy Pearson and Johnathan Pearson. A very special nephew who was like a son, Andrae L. Goodman and his father Lee A. Goodman who was a good friend, a host of beautiful nieces and nephews, two special cousins, Tonya Finnie-Pitts (Devin) and Charlotte (Nsise) Pearson-Jackson (Jonathan), his entire Candlewood Lakes Community friends and family and those great friends he made along his journey, David & Amanda Faulkner, Joe & Robbie Watkins, Irine Mungon, J.C. (Pete) & Ilean Mason, Alicia Rankhorn & Nikki Prescott and His wonderful caretaker, Ms. Gloria Powers.
